Project Details

About: Nick Alexander Films was tasked with creating a compelling video project for IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 659, showcasing the dedication and expertise of its members. The goal was to highlight the real-life experiences and personal stories of the union’s skilled tradesmen and women, who play a critical role in the success of various electrical projects. The project was designed to provide a human element to the technical work of these professionals, emphasizing their craftsmanship, pride in their trade, and the impact of their work on the community.

Challenge: This project presented several unique challenges. One of the most significant was the scheduling of the interviews with the union members. Due to the nature of their work, the tradesmen and women had unpredictable schedules and demanding job sites, making it difficult to align times for interviews. Additionally, many of the individuals we wanted to feature were not accustomed to speaking openly about their personal lives or emotions, especially on camera. Eliciting heartfelt, authentic responses that would resonate with viewers required careful attention to both the individual’s comfort level and the nuances of their stories.

The challenge was to create a narrative that not only showcased the technical skill of the workers but also highlighted the human side of their profession—the sacrifices, the pride, and the sense of brotherhood that comes with being a member of IBEW 659.

Outcome: Despite the challenges, the project turned out to be a resounding success. Through a series of thoughtful interviews and a careful editing process, we were able to capture raw and genuine moments from the members of IBEW 659. The final product showcased their pride in their work and the profound impact that their careers have on their families, communities, and the future of the electrical trade. The video served as both a tribute to their hard work and a powerful recruitment tool for the union, providing a deeper understanding of the value these skilled professionals bring to the table.

The feedback from IBEW 659 members was overwhelmingly positive, and the project resonated deeply with the audience. It was a testament to the power of storytelling, even in a profession often viewed through a technical lens.
